A presentation of the Genéve exhibition at Galerie Jullien (in French, Italian and English)

L’art de saisir l’âme des lieux…
A l’occasion de la publication du livre d’ Andrew Martin, «! Interior Design Review! 2009 », la
«! bible! » regroupant chaque année les designers internationaux les plus créatifs, l’architecte
d’intérieur genevois Jorge Cañete, qui y figure, a décidé de fêter cette distinction par une demarche originale.
Pour faire écho à son travail, il a demandé au photographe italien Cesare Bedognè de présenter son oeuvre pour la première fois en Suisse. Pour ce faire, il lui a donné carte blanche - ou grise comme il aime à rectifier, car c’est la couleur de la gélatine argentique- pour sélectionner 12 photos, tirées des séries «Leaving», «Innerscapes» et «Broken Images».
«J’ai tout de suite été séduit par l’approche de Cesare, par sa manière de rendre hommage aux lieux perdus, laissés aux mains du temps, à cette vision qu’il a que l’intérieur et l’extérieur ne forment qu’un tout.
J’ai été d’autant plus touché par son oeuvre qu’il me semblait que nous parlions le même langage.
Dans mon travail, j’essaie toujours de respecter l’esprit du lieu, de m’inspirer de son environnement pour que son intérieur en soit le reflet harmonieux.
Lui possède cette magie singulière de photographier l’âme des lieux, ce talent particulier de saisir
l’esprit des personnes qui les hantaient…» relève Jorge Cañete.
Le lieu du vernissage et de cette exposition n’a pas été choisi par hasard : la Librairie-Galerie
JULLIEN, fondée en 1839, au coeur de la ville de Genève; un endroit habité par la patine du temps.

In occasione della pubblicazione del libro di Andrew Martin “Interior Design Review 2009”, la “bibbia” che raggruppa ogni anno i designers più creativi del mondo, l’architetto d’interni ginevrino Jorge Canete, che vi figura, ha deciso di promuovere l’iniziativa con un’idea originale.
Per fare eco al suo lavoro, ha domandato al fotografo italiano Cesare Bedognè di presentare la sua opera per la prima volta in Svizzera e gli ha lasciato carta bianca – o grigia come ama rettificare, essendo questo il colore della gelatina d’argento - nella selezione di 12 fotografie tratte dalle serie Broken Images, Leaving e Innerscapes.
“Sono stato immediatamente attratto dall’approccio di Cesare, dal suo modo di onorare luoghi perduti, abbandonati nelle mani del tempo; dalla visione secondo cui l’interno e l’esterno sono una stessa cosa.
Le sue immagini mi hanno colpito anche perché mi sembra che parliamo lo stesso linguaggio. Nel mio lavoro ho sempre cercato di rispettare l’anima del luogo, lasciandomi ispirare da quello che lo circonda, in modo che l’interno ne sia una armonica riflessione.
Cesare possiede una magica capacità di fotografare lo spirito dei luoghi, un talento unico nel cogliere le vibrazioni misteriose che li percorrono”.
Il luogo del vernissage non è stato scelto a caso: la Libreria e Galleria Jullien, fondata nel 1839 nel cuore da Ginevra, un luogo abitato dalla patina del tempo.
The art of seizing the soul of places
On the occasion of the publication of the book Andrew Martin Interior Design Review, the
bible that presents every year the work of the most creative international interior design
architects, Jorge Cañete, who appears in the new edition of 2009, has decided to celebrate this
by an original step.
He has asked the Italian photographer Cesare Bedognè to present his work for the first time in
Geneve. To do this, he has given him carte blanche – or carte grise, as he likes to correct these
words, because it is the color of silver gelatin – to present twelve photos from the series
Leaving, Innerscapes and Broken Images.
‘I was immediately attracted to Cesare’s approach, to his way of honoring lost places, left
behind in the hands of time, to his vision that the inside and the outside are one.
I was especially touched by his works because it seemed to me that we speak the same
language. In my work I always try to respect the spirit of a place, to be inspired by its
surrounding, so that the interior is its harmonious reflection.
He has that unique magic of photographing the soul of places, the unique talent to seize the
spirit of people who haunt them’, says Jorge Cañete.
The place of the vernissage was not chosen haphazardly: the bookstore and gallery Jullien,
established 1839, in the heart of Geneve, a place inhabited by the patina of time.

The artist will be present at the vernissage that will take place at Thursday, October 29 2009 at
18.30h. This is especially a privilege as he is occupied by a retrospective at the Palazzo Sertoli
in Sondrio, Italy.
